At Falcon Environmental Service our hawking bird control involves the use of Harris Hawks as a deterrent. The job of these hawks is to fly regularly over a site where there are nuisance birds, like seagulls and pigeons, roosting or nesting. This could be anywhere across Devon, Cornwall or Somerset in cities and towns like Plymouth or Exeter or in the more coastal areas.
It might be a residential area where the birds have found the perfect nesting area on the roof, or in a more industrial area. For some businesses they can become a nuisance in town centres affecting both businesses and passers-by. Nuisance birds can cause damage to property, carry diseases and hungry gulls have even been known to swoop down and attack members of the public for their lunch!
The objective of these hawks is to send out a clear warning to the nuisance birds that the area that they are nesting in is a falcon’s territory. This leads to the nuisance birds feeling unsettled and unsafe to nest or colonise in that location and encourages them to move on to a new location.
The hawks are trained and handled by Matt, our director who is a fully trained and experienced falconer with an extensive knowledge and understanding of pest birds. His experience and knowledge means that he will have maximum impact when clearing a site. All you need to do is sit back and let him and his hawks do their job.
The birds we fly are captive and bred in the UK and all have current and relevant DEFRA paperwork, required under UK law, and they are kept in the most luxurious surroundings and are very well looked after. As well as our birds we are also licensed to carry out other bird control services like bird netting and bird spiking.
